Roseate Spoonbill
I rarely see spoonbills in Browns Creek and this immature one was all alone. |
I'm hoping that it means they are making their way from Guana to Pumpkin Hill. |

We spent some time peering at each other through the branches |

Little Blue Heron
I came by this guy and he let me shoot for quite a while as he stalked his meal. |
The reflection on the still water was perfect |

Great Blue Heron
This guy was sitting in a tree as I floated past him shooting |
He spotted me but never spooked. |

I like the background of the tree, the bue sky and whisp of cloud. |

Great Blues - Momma and Babies
Here is something that I have never seen before - Great Blue Heron babies. |
Mom is standing on a branch to the right slighly above the two chicks. |
They were quite agitated - croaking like I have never heard before and were basically attacking mom and each other for the food. |
The one nearest the camera is actually biting mom as she regurgitates the food to the other chick |
Now they are fighting each other. |
"here you rude thing you!" |
"but you gave him more than me!" |
What a face! |
"here's some more!" |
Mom got smart and flew to another branch just above them and to the left. |
That didn't stop them from fighting, however |
Finally, she flew off to get some more food. |
This is the same pair from another angle |
You can see a second nest occupied by another adult |
Mom taking a break from the kids
I think this was mom. At least this is where I saw her fly to. |

Little Blue Molting
Summer time is when you see the odd markings on the immature Little Blue Herons as they go from white to blue plummage. |
